Hi there!
So getting this season started off soon, coming up is the national GP s in Skövde and Borås. I haven’t spent a lot of time training this month to be honest because I’ve had a lot to do with other things and I’ve been away from home a lot. So I’ve got to get in shape. First coming up is a two day training with Hans Hoorn in Helsingborg with the national team.
This year will be a preparation year for 2012. I’m excited about this year because I’ve got very good horses right now:
High Yummy, 9 year old, I hope he will do the magic this year!
Isaac, 15 year old, I’m going to manage him well this year for special occasions only!
Philema, 10 years old, I’m going to try her out at a little bit higher level than last year, but she will always be a great against the clock!
Skyline, 10 years old, this is a new mare I believe in a lot, I own her together with Ulrika Hedin.
Abritage, 7 years old, this is probably the best horse I’ve ever had the privilege to ride, he is an incredible talent!!
Flecu, 7 years old, this horse is also a very talented horse ready to compete, he has a lot of scope and lightness!
Bexley, 10 years old, this new mare is very interesting to see how far she can go, she has already had a lot of success in big classes.
It was great to see Marcus Ehning win the World Cup yesterday from Zurich, everytime I see him ride I get goose bumps! He can ride so fast and never chases his horses in a jump off, he’s just choosing the right track and keeps on going on on stride. One thing that I really like about him and makes him so excellent is that he ALWAYS WINS WITH STYLE. You know today I see so many riders win classes and they just kind of ”get the job done” and they just hammer the horses down to the fences, they’re kicking and chasing and it’s nothing that makes me so sad to see when this pays off. In Sweden for example it’s scary too find that this mentality is so accepted and they call it ”fighting spirit” and as long as you win that’s the main thing, and i’m not saying fighting spirit is wrong i’m a fighter if anyone, but I see it get abused to the point where it doesn’t matter how easy you make it, just as long you make it happen. If there’s something I learned when training with Beerbaums and Eric Navet is that showjumping is all about consistency, the most successful rides are the ones who keeps on riding consistant every day and really making it so easy for the horses to jump, and there’s no better feeling than to have a horse working exactly in right balance, great impulsion, connection and just waiting for the fences and this is what champions practice day after day and perfect it. What makes great champions is people who really perfect three areas
1) Passion. Champions are so passionate about their game and so focused about details, everything from saddelery, stable management to the really small things in training at home.
2) Mentality. They ask themselves better questions than anyone else! Champions are great in asking questions to themselves, which totally gets their focus on the right things and makes them come up with better answers and solutions.
3) Strategies. They have the best strategies, they keep on doing the right thing at the right time. They are basically amazingly good riders, their technique, style, training regime, management, choosing the right horses and their feeling/intuition for these things are what make than most rider who are ”good”.
So it’s not enough to have a great talent for riding and being an amazingly good rider, you have to also have management/leadership skills and then also entrepreneurship skills if you don’t have anyone around you who complement you with these skills. That why showjumping is the ultimate game, because you can’t stay at the top if you don’t master all these areas. And this also explains why is takes years and years to really establish yourself at the top, because anyone can have a good year or two but in the long run it’s guys like Ludger Beerbaum, Marcus Ehning, Rolf-Göran Bengtsson, Kevin Staut, McLain Ward, Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum etc. etc. that can stay on the top for years.
